The Institute of Advance Computing and Management (IACM) provides specialised courses in networking technologies. Presently, the IACM has five centres across the country and plans to promote itself as a leading institution of network training, through a franchise model.

What is networking, as related to IT?

Today, as we know, the personal computer or PC has entered our lives in every area of our activity.
Networking relates to the transfer of data through the PC to as many users connected to the network. For instance, there is the ''local network'' pertaining to a limited domain; ''wide area network'', ''virtual private network'' or VPN among others. In business, these networks are of a great help in the transfer of data. Similarly, data transfer through the internet and online is quite reliable. All this individually or combined together are part of networking and networking is an integral part of any activity or organisation where a PC is used.

What kind of growth has networking technologies witnessed in India?

The market has seen a steady growth in the past seven years to eight years. The main factor is the growth of widespread use of PC in enterprises, whether business or otherwise. And with the growth of the networking market, the demand for professionals who can control and manage networking systems has grown steadily as well.

What is the situation of networking education and training in India? Do we have the right foundation to churn out professionals in this segment?

In India, although a number of universities are offering networking modules; it''s not a part of the specialised discipline. There is a lack of a focused approach. In this field, like in any other, specialisation is the need of the hour. Unfortunately, our university education system is such that even if the universities are able to devise the latest curriculum in networking technologies, they cannot implement the same, without hassles.

Then this is a sector, where the course curriculum has to adapt very quickly to the ever changing needs of the industry. In India, probably, only the IITs have the infrastructure to offer such courses. The private universities and other institutions who wish to offer these courses along with other programmes will find it difficult to sustain themselves.

Where does IACM fit in all this?

The IACM''s forte is its specialised programmes in networked technologies. We are a ISO 9001: 2000 certified enterprise. Our programmes are of a minimum 40-hour duration to a maximum of one-year duration. We offer global qualifications to our students through our tie-ups with organisations such as Microsoft and Cisco too. Today, we have become the largest training centre in India offering courses in networking technologies and train about 2,000 students every year at our various centres. We admit students who are 10 plus two pass-outs into our programmes. Recently, we launched ''Dakshankan'', a concept through which the students of the Board level can evaluate themselves with a databank of 75,000 questions at their disposal, available with expert suggestions. We are charging Rs 3,000 per student for this scheme and are getting an overwhelming response from the student community.

What is the future of networking in India and what kind of money can students earn?

The future of networking is very bright with IT pervading every segment of our lives. The PC sales have touched a record high and wireless technologies have come up, which augurs well for the networking market. A student can, at the entry level, easily earn between Rs 5,000 and 7,000 per month which goes up with experience.
www.iacm-india.com
